Amos Newsome Commissioner District 2 About Commissioner Newsome Born and raised in Houston County, Mr. Amos Newsome graduated from Ashford Colored High School and later received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Tuskegee University.  He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army and has been awarded numerous professional diplomas and certificates from both the U.S. Army and Air Force.  In 1979, Mr. Newsome founded Summit Investments where he is the current owner.  His community service and involvement is extensive and has included the City of Dothan's Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustment, Municipal Housing Code Abatement Board, Citizens Supervisory Committee, Bi-Racial Study Group, and the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Newsome has notably served as a U.S. Army flight instructor and professor of Military Science at Prairie View A & M University.  He is a volunteer firefighter and former youth athletic coach.
