What we do to serve you........
-
PUBLIC WORKS - The Engineering Services Division staff provides engineering support during design and construction of Public Works projects, subdivision development, and commercial site development. City Public Works inspectors provide inspection support to ensure quality construction of the projects through completion. The Administration Division ensures quantities, scheduling of associated work, and completion of projects within the allotted time. Projects include, but are not limited to, street paving and resurfacing, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, recreation, and building maintenance.
-
ENGINEERING - Engineers on staff design various projects for other City of Dothan departments. We provide surveying services for numerous municipal projects, marking of rights-of-way, marking of easements, etc. Topographic and construction drawings are developed by drafting services using the latest in Autocad and GIS software and hardware.
-
RECORDS - In-house records include maintaining a current City street name list, E-911 Addressing Inquiry, topography maps, sanitary sewer maps, storm drainage maps, easement maps, subdivision plats, aerial photographs, and other information regarding the City of Dothan including location of City limits, and municipal voting districts.
-
REAL PROPERTY - Acquisition - the City acquires neglected or condemned property within the City of Dothan. Management - the City is responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of property owned and maintained by the City of Dothan. Disposition - the City arranges for City property to be sold when deemed surplus property. City Cemeteries - the City manages and maintains two cemeteries: Dothan City Cemetery and North Highland Cemetery. We will research city records for information regarding lot ownership for lineage and historical concerns.
-
ENGINEERING SUPPORT - The Engineering Services Division staff performs interpretation of the FEMA flood maps and related documentation. We inspect and review condition reports for 28 bridges in the City as required by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). We monitor rainfall data within Dothan. We review commercial sites regarding site access, sanitary sewer availability, storm drainage, storm water retention and retaining walls. We recommend and monitor erosion and sediment control where needed on development sites. We perform line location for buried sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems prior to underground work being done by underground utility companies. We provide and maintain a benchmark system of horizontal and vertical control. We process and resolve complaints concerning City streets, storm drainage and sanitary sewers.
-
STORM DRAINAGE – The City of Dothan is classified as a Phase II Small Municipal Storm Sewer System (MS4). As an MS4 the City of Dothan obtained a General Permit in 2003.
