Information Technology Director
The Information Technology department is located on the third floor of the Roy Driggers Municipal Building, room 302. The department provides computer, telephone, and electronics support to all City departments and the Dothan/Houston County E911 District. I.T. is sub-divided into six divisions: AS/400 – Core Business Applications, Server Administration/Server Applications, Internet/Web-Services, Network/Telecommunications, Geographic Information Systems, and Help Desk/Daily Operations.
AS/400 – Core Business Applications Division
The AS/400-Core Business applications division is responsible for maintaining the City's mid-range computer hardware, maintaining and supporting the City's public safety software (fires, crimes, court, etc.), maintaining the City's business applications (utility billing, accounting, payroll, etc.), and mid-range systems backup and disaster recovery.
Server Administration and Server Applications Division
The Server Administration and Server Applications division is responsible for maintaining the City's "Intel" based server hardware, user authentication and user permissions/security, server applications, and "Intel" systems backup and disaster recovery.
Internet and Web-Services Division
The Internet and Web-Services division is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the City's Web-Site, maintaining the hardware and software necessary to deliver web-services to the community, maintaining e-mail services, and video editing/production services.
Network and Telecommunications Division
The Network and Telecommunications division is responsible for developing, building, and maintaining the City's LAN/WAN infrastructure, maintaining the City's telephone systems, maintaining network security (intrusion detection, virus scanning, content filtering, etc.), and communications systems backup and disaster recovery.
GIS – Geographic Information Systems Division
The GIS division is responsible for developing and maintaining the City's mapping systems, developing/maintaining myriad map overlays (street systems, electrical systems, water systems, etc.), and maintaining/supporting geographical applications.
Help Desk and Daily Operations Division
The help Desk and Daily Operations division is responsible for maintaining the City's computer Operations center, supports/assists 700+ users, install/maintain 550+ personal computers.
