The Dothan Leisure Services Therapeutic Recreation Program provides recreation and leisure activities for intellectually challenged individuals.  The program strives to provide activities that will enable our special citizen's opportunities to build personal self confidence through fun, social, and educational experiences.

Special Olympics Program

The Therapeutic Recreation Program also coordinates the local Special Olympics program for the Dothan area.  The goal of the Special Olympics is to provide opportunities for intellectually challenged children and adults to participate as productive and respected citizens, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs.  To be eligible to participate in Special Olympic sports programs, participants must complete an Application for Participation in Special Olympics (Health Form) and a Release Form.  These forms can be obtained from the local office.  Forms are good for three years.

Dothan Miracle League

The Dothan Miracle League is an organization that provides children and adults with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball as a team member in an organized league.

Dothan's "Rotary Miracle Field" is a specially equipped baseball field accessible to mentally and physically challenged children and adults.
